Courtside
Privacy Policy
Courtside is a basketball scoreboard and scorebook for iPad and Android, made by Carbonium Labs (“we”). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.
What we collect
Nothing. Carbonium Labs does not operate servers for Courtside and never receives information about you, your games or your device. Courtside has no sign-in, advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs. It does not track you across apps or websites.
What stays on your device
The teams, rosters, games and settings you create are saved on your device, in Courtside’s own storage. Your device’s backup may include them (iCloud or your computer on iPad, Android backup on Android, depending on your settings), under that service’s own terms. Deleting a game moves it to Recently Deleted for 30 days. Deleting the app removes everything.
Microphone
If you turn on Whistle Stop, Courtside uses the microphone to listen for a referee’s whistle so it can stop the game clock. The sound is analyzed in memory on your device, a fraction of a second at a time, and then discarded. It is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere.
While the game clock runs, Whistle Stop can keep listening if you briefly switch to another app, so a whistle still stops the clock. Your device shows its microphone indicator throughout, and on Android a notification. Listening ends when the clock stops or the game ends. You can turn Whistle Stop off at any time, and you can withdraw microphone access in your device settings.
Camera
Clock Sync, Sub Scan and Roster Scan use the camera to read a scoreboard clock, jersey numbers or a printed roster. Text recognition runs on your device. Camera frames are processed in memory, are never saved or sent, and are used only while one of those screens is open. You can withdraw camera access in your device settings.
Android: Google ML Kit
On Android, Courtside reads scoreboards and jersey numbers with Google’s ML Kit text recognition, which runs on the device. Camera images are not sent to Google. Like all ML Kit features, it may send Google limited diagnostic and usage information so Google can maintain the component: device model and OS version, Courtside’s package name and version, a per-installation identifier that is not meant to identify you, performance and error metrics, and feature configuration. This data is encrypted in transit. Google handles it under the Google Privacy Policy (see ML Kit’s data disclosure). We do not receive it.
The iPad app uses Apple’s on-device Vision framework and sends nothing.
Notifications (Android)
Courtside asks to post notifications only for the notice Android requires while Whistle Stop listens. It sends no other notifications.
Sharing
When you share a box score, score card or stats, they leave your device only through the system share sheet, to the app or person you choose. Courtside does not keep a copy anywhere else.
Children
Courtside is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Courtside sends nothing to us.
Your choices and rights
Your data is on your device, so you control it: edit or delete any game, team or roster in the app, or delete the app. Because we hold no personal information about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete on our side. For data Google’s ML Kit receives on Android, see the Google Privacy Policy.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will post the new version here with a new effective date.
