Getting started
How do I start a game?
Tap New Game. Pick or create the two teams, choose the rules, stat depth, timeouts and clocks on the same screen, then tap Start Game. To look around first, tap Explore a demo game on the Home screen. The demo game is never saved.
Which rules does Courtside support?
Presets for NFHS, NCAA Men, NCAA Women, NBA, FIBA and Youth, covering periods, bonus and double bonus, foul-outs, technicals and timeout allotments. The shot clock can be off, 24, 30 or 35 seconds. You can also set your own timeout counts.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
No. Courtside has no sign-up and works fully offline.
Scoring and corrections
How does scoring work?
What happened, then who: tap the play (for example +2), then the player. If you are not sure who it was, choose Team / unknown and assign it later. Plays that imply another one ask for it, for example a miss asks for the rebound.
I made a mistake. How do I fix it?
Use Undo for the last action, or open the play-by-play and edit or delete any play. The score and stats update from the corrected log.
Whistle Stop (microphone)
Why does Courtside ask for the microphone?
Whistle Stop listens for the referee’s whistle so it can stop the game clock at the moment the whistle began. Audio is analyzed in memory on your device and is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere. Courtside asks for it only when Whistle Stop is on.
What is the difference between Ask and Auto-stop?
Ask (the default) shows a banner such as “Stop at 6:06.8”, and one tap stops the clock at the whistle’s time. Auto-stop stops the clock by itself and shows Undo. Any automatic stop can be undone in one tap.
How do I turn Whistle Stop off?
In New Game, in Settings, or with the Whistle chip on the live screen. You can also withdraw microphone access in your device settings at any time. The rest of Courtside works without it.
Why is there a notification while the clock runs? (Android)
Android requires a visible notification while an app uses the microphone in the background. It appears only while Whistle Stop is listening and goes away when the clock stops or the game ends.
Camera assists
What do Clock Sync, Sub Scan and Roster Scan do?
Clock Sync reads the gym scoreboard’s clock and keeps Courtside’s clock in step. It never changes the score. Sub Scan reads jersey numbers to propose substitutions. Roster Scan (iPad) imports a printed roster. Camera frames are processed on your device and never saved.
Clock Sync is not reading the scoreboard.
Hold the device steady with the whole clock in frame and avoid strong glare on the scoreboard. Courtside reads seven-segment scoreboard clocks. If it cannot get a confident reading it leaves your clock alone, and you can keep scoring as normal.
Your games and data
Where are my games stored?
On your device only. Your device’s own backup (iCloud, your computer, or Android backup, depending on your settings) may include them.
How do I delete a game?
Long-press it in the game list and choose Delete. It moves to Recently Deleted for 30 days, where you can restore it. Deleting the app removes everything.
How do I share or export stats?
From the box score, share a score card image, a PDF box score, or CSV files of the box score and play-by-play through your device’s share sheet.
Devices
Which devices are supported?
iPad running iPadOS 26 or later, in landscape. Android 12 or later. Courtside is designed for foldables (open, cover screen, tabletop and book postures) and adapts to other phones and tablets.
Can I show the score on a TV? (iPad)
Yes. Connect a TV with AirPlay or a USB-C/HDMI adapter. The TV shows a read-only arena scoreboard and the iPad keeps the controls.
